iFIGHT is a youth movement to knock out human trafficking and modern slavery in this generation by raising massive awareness among the youth in different schools and universities around the country. The youth are the most vulnerable to trafficking. By empowering the vulnerable, they become invulnerable; ashamed to confident, fearful to fearless. It is through empowering the youth that the prey becomes the predator – the first major step to ending trafficking and slavery.
The “I” represents the individual – awareness of self, choice, actions, and power. While the FIGHT is what is done – a movement of fighters, of iFIGHTERS!
iFIGHT was inspired by the CNN Freedom Project documentary entitled “The Fighters.” Shown internationally May of 2013, the documentary featured the journey of human rights activist Ma. Cecilia Flores-Oebanda of Visayan Forum and world renowned boxer Manny Pacquiao in their fight against human trafficking in the Philippines. Together, they were able to pass an expanded version of the anti-trafficking law that included provisions that would further protect Filipinos. This served as a significant victory in the country. Although, for the message of anti-trafficking to be sustained, we must continue to fight! So the iFIGHT movement started.
iFIGHT is one of Visayan Forum’s pillars, an organization that has been fighting human trafficking and modern slavery since 1991. The founder is Ma.
